An important point to note is that one need not be flat-footed to suffer from over-pronation. Alternatively people with a normal-to-low arch condition might be prone to this. Neither a normal sitting posture nor standing upright stresses the arches or shows a high degree of over-pronation respectively. However this condition manifests the moment one starts walking as the arches collapse and ankles roll inwards. If you are suffering from over-pronation (70% of the population does) numerous complaints may occur due to your poor walking posture. Young people under forty tend to suffer from over-pronation without any clear symptoms, aches, or other complaints. The most obvious symptoms of fallen arches are foot pain and discomfort. You might begin to have difficulty walking comfortably. Your foot might begin to turn out at the ankle, causing you to distribute too much of your body weight over the inner part of your feet. As a result of the decreased support from your arches, you could also experience misalignment of the foot, ankle, knee and lower back. Flexible flatfeet are considered normal in young children because babies are not born with a normal arch. The arch may not form fully until sometime between ages 7 and 10. In many adults who have had flexible flatfeet since childhood, the missing arch is an inherited condition related to a general looseness of ligaments. These people usually have extremely flexible, very mobile joints throughout the body, not only in the feet. Flatfeet also can develop during adulthood. Causes include joint disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, and disorders of nerve function (neuropathy). A derby cane provides a comfortable grip and extra support when you need some assistance. The cane features a reinforced pin between the handle and shaft, which helps distribute your weight over the shaft to give you greater stability. You can use the derby cane in either hand and hook the curved handle over your arm when you need a free hand.
